The Ranting Reviewer does not get paid or receive any revenue from manufacturers or retailers of products reviewed. I occasionally receive products that I am asked to use and see what I think. I take a look, try them out and tell you all about them.
A package for The Ranting Reviewer? Oh what could it be?
What I found was the Perfect Portions Scale from DMD Brands. Weighing in the kitchen is important for two reasons. The first is in baking, as it becomes much more accurate than using volume measurements (cups and teaspoons). The second, and one that is important to me, is to help both control portions and to understand what calories, fat and carbs you are putting into your cooking and your body.
There are dozens of kitchen scales out there. For the most part they all do the same thing. The Perfect Portions scale takes it to the next level.
Built into the face of the scale is the nutrition box that we are all familiar with from food packages.
In addition to the weight (ounces or grams), you can also get nutrition information from the food that you weigh.
The Perfect Portions Scale has a built-in database of two thousand food items. I entered in the code (they give you a booklet where foods are easy to find) and got all the information I needed about my banana. (I then peeled it and weighed it again, as I wasn’t planning on eating the peel).
The Perfect Portions Scale also allows you to easily weigh foods in containers. First you place the empty container on the scale and it records the weight.
Press the “zero” key and the scale now reflects a zero weight.
Add your ingredient, in this case some milk, and you receive accurate information about just the ingredient.
There are many more foods out there than the two thousand in the built-in database. Lucky for us, the scale allows you to enter in nutrition information about additional foods and store it for future use. My family loves these cocoa covered (not chocolate but cocoa powder) almonds, so I entered the nutrition information and stored it. Now when I weigh out the almonds, I get accurate nutrition information. These almonds are sold in 100 calorie packs (expensive) and in a jar (less expensive). I can now weigh out my 100 calorie almonds, and save a little money without having to pull out the calculator every time.
My Take: This is a great step up from your standard kitchen scale. While it works for any home, if you, or a loved one, is carefully watching calories, sodium, carbs, fat or cholesterol, this scale is essential. You can do calculations manually, for sure, but if eating healthy is a way of life and you really want to be sure what you are putting into your body, this scale is the right thing to have in your kitchen. You can purchase it easily from Amazon.
This is such a cool scale! I might get one for my bf.. he’s diabetic. Thanks!

I don’t do the whole ‘accurately measuring and weighing’ thing .. more like the ‘lets put more of this in and see what happens’ thing, but I can see how helpful that would be for someone who was monitoring their food intake strictly. Good to know it’s out there!

WOW! So fancy. That is really cool that the nutritional information displays. And I looked at Amazon, not that expensive. I thought it would be a lot more. Did you find that it actually weighed accurately?
