Product Review: Vinturi Aerators

The Ranting Reviewer does not get paid or receive any revenue from manufacturers or retailers of products reviewed. I occasionally receive products that I am asked to use and see what I think. I take a look, try them out and tell you all about them.

Happy days when a package comes for me.

Inside I found both a red wine aerator and spirit aerator from Vinturi.

First out was the wine aerator. Many wines, particularly red wines, will benefit from aeration. This is the process of exposing wine to air, typically by decanting, allows the aroma and flavor to improve. The issue with decanting is that it takes time. Want a glass of wine? You don’t want to wait for the time it takes to decant, so what can you do? Vinturi to the rescue.

This little device solves the issue – the Red Wine Aerator.

Simply position the aerator over the glass and pour red wine into the top. The shape of the aerator funnels the wine into a chamber where air is drawn in from the side and into the wine.

The aerated wine ends up in the glass below.

Vinturi also sent along a spirit aerator.

The concept is the same but there is a key difference in the devices.

The spirit aerator holds the spirit in the top allowing you to measure 1, 1.5 or 2oz.

Once measured, you push a button and the spirit falls through the aeration chamber and into the glass.

Over the course of several nights I tried it will some tawny port, Kentucky bourbon and some French Brandy.

My Take: I tested the Vinturi aerators by first tasting the unaerated wine or spirit. I then ran it through the aerator and tasted it again. I noticed a difference. The flavor of the wine opened up. It was not just bolder but more complete. The port also showed a large difference. The bourbon showed some improvement whereas I could not taste much of a difference in the brandy (although I have to admit that I am not much of a brandy drinker). These tools are valuable additions to your bar and will very easily increase your enjoyment of wine and other alcohol. Have a wine enthusiast in your family that is difficult to buy for? The Vinturi red wine aerator makes a great gift. Do you have better quality spirits behind your bar? Get the best of them through aeration. Check out these products and others at Vinturi.

  1. I love the Venturi, I definitely notice a huge difference in the acidity of the wine. It gets rid of the acidity right away. It’s bad I know, but I bring it with me when I am visiting friends lol.

  2. If only they used this to each us aeration in our Physics labs at school! 😉

Yeah, it would also help if I actually *drank* alcohol instead of, um, stashing it in my Sunday coffee and special event dishes.
